What will Victoria look like in 2051?

15 July 2016

The latest report shows upwards trends in birth rates, life expectancy and migration, meaning the strong population growth Victoria has been experiencing in recent years will continue.

While the majority of change will be in metropolitan Melbourne, strong growth is also expected in our major regional centres. Greater Geelong, Ballarat and Greater Bendigo between them are expected to account for half of Victoria’s regional growth to 2031.

Victoria in Future 2016 (VIF2016) is an update of VIF2015 projections and is an indication of possible future populations if current demographic, economic and social trends continue. It provides population, age structure and household projections for Victoria's 79 Local Government Areas and 191 smaller areas.
