New Planning and Subdivision Fees to Apply from 13 October
29 September 2016
The Governor in Council made new planning and subdivision fee regulations on 27 September 2016. The new fees will apply to applications made on or after 13 October 2016.
The new regulations set the fees that can be charged by local councils (or other planning authorities and responsible authorities) for the services provided under the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and Subdivision Act 1988. New fees will apply to new applications made on or after 13 October 2016.
The planning and subdivision fees in Victoria had not been properly reviewed since 2000. Current fees recover about 20-30 per cent of the actual costs to councils. The new fees ensure an appropriate level of cost recovery for the delivery of these services.
The new fees will better resource council planning and subdivision departments and improve the delivery and timeliness of development across Victoria. These changes followed a rigorous process that was subject to an independent review by the Office of the Commissioner for Better Regulation and a public consultation process.
