The Victorian planning system is continuously improving. This includes strategically reviewing planning policy and statutory frameworks, planning processes and how we deliver planning services.


New Infrastructure Contributions Plan System

The Minister for Planning has introduced a new system for Infrastructure Contributions Plans (ICP) which came into operation on 27 October 2016.

The new system is based on standard levies that are preset for different development settings and land uses to fund the provision of essential infrastructure to support new or growing communities.

Reformed zones for Victoria have been prepared and introduced to better respond to present-day requirements.

VicSmart – a simpler permit process

The Planning and Environment Amendment (VicSmart Planning Assessment) Act 2012 amends the Planning and Environment Act 1987 to enable a streamlined assessment process for straightforward planning permit applications to be set up in planning schemes. VicSmart is now in operation.

New planning guidelines for greyhound facilities across Victoria

The government is considering making changes to the way that greyhound keeping and training facilities are managed in Victoria's planning system.  Submissions closed on 7 October 2016.
